Red Tornado Joins CBS’s Supergirl

11909323_839863862799921_1518118005_n

Spoiler photos of Red Tornado dropped and its rather unfortunate that they did. Far be it from me to poo poo all over something I haven’t seen in action yet (cause we all know I never do that) Red Tornado looks atrocious. What is this? A throw back from the 90’s era Flash. Come on CBS! This wouldn’t have been OK twenty five years ago, why is it OK now. First off how can one even call him the Red Tornado seeing as he is hardly red and more maroon. Second, is he supposed to be Vision’s love child with a Dirt Devil? I know he’s not human but those contacts look awful and that weird fabric the suit is made of….it looks all glittery…..what the hell is that? Dare I say if we had gotten a shiny plastic/latex look with the eye and mouth slits(think JLU animated series) it might have been better. Obviously the show runners for Supergirl are taking some cues from Man of Steel(see bland washed out colors). I like many of us saw the pilot and had high hopes for this show. While I still believe it will be good I can’t say the same for old Red. Unless they pull something in post ala Apcolypse (while he still doesn’t look great not looking like Ivan Ooze is a step in the right direction) my hope for a good take on Red Tornado are dashed. Now I’m not basing this on aesthetics only, after all he is been named T.O. Morrow. Another huge misstep, IMHO, seeing as he was not T.O. Morrow but a creation of his and then some. He looks terrible to me, yet judging off what limited info we have I could be wrong but I doubt it. If I am I will be the first to admit it. It’s just the waiting game till the show airs and we see him in action. Supergirl premieres on CBS October 26th. I’m hoping for another great show from the DC/WB stable.

Zolo Who? Toy Shield Has Arrived!

Man o man am I happy! As a MOMC collector, I like to keep the packages as fresh and mint as possible so of course when I discovered protective clamshell cases for my carded figures, I was excited! While a few companies have offered up some great cases for certain toy lines like Star Wars, G.I. Joe & Hot Wheels, I always found that other big lines were being ignored. Then I found out about Zoloworld. While they offer a variety of different sized cases, my OCD wouldn’t allow me to enjoy them as much of their cases leave too much room in the case. There are plenty of lines that they ‘specialize’ in but everyone who knows me knows my main line is TMNT so you can imagine my disappointment with their TMNT designed cases. They always say if you want something done right, do it yourself and that was an idea a buddy of mine and I had early this year but then just recently, I discovered a newcomer to the world of protective clamshell cases. Enter: Toy Shield.

ts casets case shipping

Pictured above is the actual TMNT case for all vintage carded TMNT figures from 1988-1993 as well as my order of 4 bubble wrapped to avoid damage while being shipped.

First let’s talk customer service and price. They are $1.60 less than Zoloworld’s cases (ZW-$5.35 each vs TS-$3.75 each). ZW is currently offering a TMNT Fit case that is still way too big for the carded stuff. Toy Shields cases are exact fit. While I can’t compare their customer service, I can say that Toy Shield is very quick to reply to any questions you may have and the turnaround time is fast! Before placing my order, (it was a Tuesday afternoon), I was told I would be holding them by Thursday. Sure enough come Thursday, they were waiting for me. As shown in the pic above, they arrived wrapped in bubble wrap as well as a few air pillows to prevent them from moving around inside the box. The one thing I would say I didn’t like about the actual shipping were the TMNT stickers ON the box with the company name and slogan. It’s not that I don’t like the stickers themselves, I just don’t like people at the Post Office or anyone who sees the box to know what’s in them. Hey let’s face it, people can be shady! Moving on, below are a few comparisons of the extra space on the sides for both Toy Shield Cases and ZoloWorld.

These Toy Shield cases also fit the smaller carded TMNT lines released after 1993 very well, although not exact due to Playmates making the cards just a tad less wide. Below are images of my Savage Leo figure in such a smaller package for comparison.

Looks pretty sharp doesn’t it? Of course me being a collector of many different lines, I decided to grab a few other series’ within arms reach just to see what else fit. Some things to note about the stuff shown below; the current Nick TMNT card is just a hair off from being able to lay perfect on the inside from side to side, bigger boxed items like the Mutations line as well as some of the smaller vehicles like the Cheapskate are all too thick for these cases, Playmates Darkwing Duck series are the exact same size as the 88-93 Turtles so guess what? Perfect fit!

To sum up this review, I would highly recommend this company and their cases to my fellow collectors! They currently also carry exact fit cases for the Kenner Super Powers line and are currently working on Kenner era Batman exact fit cases as well as taller vintage TMNT subsets like the Star Trek series and more. I’m stoked! Contact them and let them know what lines you want to see exact fit cases for!

Top 10 Hottest Female Power Rangers

image

Earlier today, WatchMojo added a new Top 10 list on their YouTube page listing the Top 10 Female Power Rangers. Being a fan of both the Power Rangers franchise as well as beautiful women, I felt compelled to watch their video. While there are certainly some beautiful women on the list, I’m not sure I agree with their ranking order. Also, Christina Masterson, the Pink Megaforce/Super Megaforce Ranger was nowhere on the list! All in all, it was pretty entertaining 11 minutes. Enjoy!

It’s that time again! Hot Cash is here! If you don’t know what it is, allow me to explain. Several times a year Hot Topic runs a promotion where you get a coupon for $15 off of $30. WWE to Split Raw & Smackdown Into Separate Brands Again?

image
As wrestling fans, we can all admit that WWE hasn’t been as entertaining as we know it can be and once was. One of the things that made it interesting was the brand split. “What’s the brand split?” you ask? Well, each show had a General Manager and they conducted a draft of the WWE Superstars & Divas to each show. Once the person was selected, they were exclusive to either Raw or Smackdown. It was an interesting way to get ratings up as you had to watch a specific show to see your favorite sports entertainer. The brand split dissolved a few years ago and some fans have been saying how WWE “needs” to return to it. Leave it to Mattel to possibly give us a spoiler!

image
Smackdown is moving to the USA Network in 2016 and there have been rumors that it may switch to being a Live show. There are also rumors that WWE has big plans and changes in store which is why they may not be too quick to change up the show as it’s currently airing on SyFy. So how does Mattel tie into this? They produce the main line of WWE action figures, their Basic series shipping every month. It’s around this time of year that we start to see upcoming product that will end 2015 and start us into 2016. Every year, Mattel modifies the packaging in terms of shape, size and graphics. So far, they’ve released images for their Battle Pack Series 37 and the graphics featured lead me to believe WWE may be heading back towards splitting up the roster for Raw & Smackdown. Makes sense since they consider NXT the official third brand. WrestlingFigures.com have posted the images to Battle Packs Series 37 as shown:

imageimageimage
As you can see, The Usos have the Raw brand logo on their packaging while J & J Security and The Ascension are rocking the Smackdown logo. What do you all think? Do you think Mattel maybe jumped the gun? Can we see a brand split coming soon? Does the WWE need one? Sound off below in the comments!

Variation Note: Nick TMNT Napoleon Bonafrog

image

As a collector of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures and their variations, I was happy to find another variant from the current Nickelodeon series. Napoleon Bonafrog is the latest figure to have a paint variantion, being the color of his mouth/lips.

image

As you can see in the picture above, one version which I’m assuming is the 1st release being that I got it just as they were starting to ship to Wal-Marts in the new shipper displays, has the pink on his mouth area. The 2nd version has the green. Not sure if it’s an actual variant or if it’s a running production change. Just thought I’f give my fellow TMNT collector’s a heads up!

Is Takara MP-27 Ironhide A Must Own?

YES YES YES and Hell YES!!!

Ironhide

I know a lot of collectors have been knocking Takara’s latest photos of Masterpiece Ironhide. His body is disproportionate from his head, arms are too long or short, and his face sculpt and the shade of red are off. To all those people with negative opinions, please stop. Takara has taken so long in-between new figures because they take the time to make sure you get an even amount of accuracy and detail in both robot and vehicle mode, all while trying to be true to the overall G1 look. That is not an easy thing to accomplish all while making him transform. Sometimes things will be sacrificed. He will be a new mold from all the other Autobots and Takara will be using this mold to also eventually bring us Ratchet. All we need then is Jazz and most of Primes lieutenants will be with him. I can’t wait for him to be released! I already per-ordered it! Estimated time for shipping is in early January of 2016. Happy Hunting

Masterpiece Starscream MP-07 Shipping Soon

Hasbro & Toys ‘R Us are back at it again this year by releasing the next character in their American series of numbered Masterpiece figures; MP-07 Starscream.

MP Starscream was released once before in the US as a Wal-Mart exclusive a few years back but in the last year or so, Takara, the makers of the Japanese MP series decided to create a new mold for the three seeker jets and now that Thundercracker and Skywarp are out, it’s only right we get Starscream. Below is a side by side comparison with the original release on the left side and the new updated version on the right.

You can definitely see the difference, specifically with the head mold. This marks the 7th figure in this relaunched Transformers Masterpiece TRU series, with MP-06 Prowl coming out earlier this summer. According to the TRU website, it is scheduled to start shipping October 13th, but there are some people who have already had luck on their side and have found it out in the wild.

Transformers Collectors, is this something you’ll be picking up or passing on? I know that our own Toy Reviewer, Alex Martinez is already on the hunt for it as he’s asked me to keep a lookout for it!
